Now to the review!
What is Quest of Dungeons?
Quest of Dungeons is a turn-based dungeon crawler that harks back to 16-bit retro style. Your goal is to enter the lair of the Dark Lord and defeat him while playing as either a Warrior, Wizard, Assassin, or Shaman. You need to defeat enemies and pick up loot to survive the dungeon.
What makes Quest of Dungeons so great?
Quest of Dungeons does a really good job at many things, but my favorite thing it accomplishes actually comes from the great Michael Scott, “Keep it simple, stupid”. Quest of Dungeons does a fantastic job at keeping the game simple. I was able to pick up the game, pick a character and start crawling a dungeon immediately. I knew what to do and how to do it right away. Now this simplicity doesn’t mean that the game is “easy”, or “can’t be complicated”. There are many things that the dungeon can throw at you, bosses, traps, shops, or swarms. I have found myself dying several floors down or even right after I leave the spawn room. Quest of Dungeons knows what it wants to do and it never strays away from its goal. It was created to be a dungeon crawler and it succeeds in everyday.
What makes Quest of Dungeons NOT so great?
There is little to complain about in Quest of Dungeons. Quest of Dungeons is a dungeon crawler with the forefront of “death will happen, a lot”, it even cleverly laughs at you sometimes when you die. I find myself picking this game up for a little bit but I do get a little bored over time. That doesn’t stop me from picking it up the next day (or even later that day), but I do have to take small breaks between.
So what do I conclude? Quest of Dungeons is a game that could be considered a hidden gem. I think it belongs on everyone’s console, and I think that everyone would enjoy playing this game. It is well developed and the developer definitely shows passion in his work. Quest of Dungeons declares its goal and it accomplishes it for sure.
- It can get repetitive, but what game doesn’t over time?
