Chess Ultra Nintendo Switch Review

A lifelong dream of mine was to learn how to play chess. Yes, I’m 22 and I just learned how to play chess this past summer. So when I saw Chess Ultra coming out, I was super excited since I just learned the game! If you’re a complete novice, Chess Ultra does a fantastic job of teaching you gameplay and strategy.

Chess Ultra has a fantastic AI computer system, and it allows you to go up against low beginner all the way up to Grandmaster. If you don’t like playing against computers, you can bring in a friend and also play against strangers online (cross-platform as well). Chess Ultra is a complete package for newbies and professionals who love chess.

Now, let’s get the elephant out of the room: the art-style is absolutely stunning. Everything is very polished and you have a wide variety of customization options to tweak your aesthetics. One issue that I have come across is that the camera angle can be slightly distracting. But overall, Chess Ultra has an excellent tutorial and challenge mode to teach beginners and professionals. The amount of options in the game is stunning. Being able to play online and with local friends is extremely entertaining. I guess the biggest downside is, if you do not like chess, then obviously this is not for you.
