What is Astro Duel Deluxe?

Astro Duel Deluxe is a party game where it mixes the classic Asteroids with the famous Deathmatch game mode. You and a group of friends (or bots) fight against each other to see who will be the last one standing. There is a handful of game modes and modifiers. Astro Duel Deluxe is $14.99 on the Nintendo eShop.

What makes Astro Duel Deluxe so great?

The concept behind this game is what makes it so great to me. This game reminds me of Asteroids, but amplified. Yes, if this was just a “shoot your opponent and they’re dead” kind of game, it would be fun. But the thing that sets this game apart is the ability to use specials and blindly kill your opponent with a bomb laid in “space” that they never saw coming!

What makes Astro Duel Deluxe NOT so great?

When I first started playing Astro Duel Deluxe, I was a little confused on the controls. My “astro” kept gliding around without me moving my controller. To be honest, this reminded me of the ice maps on Mario Kart, which I am not the biggest fan of. After being destroyed in two rounds, I finally got the hang of how to maneuver my little man around and the problem was fixed! This is the only real problem that I found within the game, but again, this was probably just user error in the beginning.

My Conclusion

So what do I conclude. Overall, this game is a great party game to pull out with a few friends. It can get a little repetitive while playing solo, but the ability to run over your friends ships while they are scurrying away for their life will never get old.
